Turkey recalls ambassador over Greek costume
Turkeyâs ambassador to Uganda was recalled to Ankara after criticism of her choice of costume at a ceremony marking the 95th anniversary of the founding of the modern Turkish Republic.
Sedef Yavuzalp was pictured at a reception at the embassy in Kampala wearing a dress reportedly inspired by ancient Greece, Hürriyet Daily News reported. Other embassy staff were also seen supporting similar attire.
The Sozcu daily on Saturday said Yavuzalp had dressed as Helen of Troy â" whose beauty was said by Homer to have sparked the Trojan War â" and an assistant was the Greek god Zeus.
Foreign Minister Mevlüt ÃavuÅoÄlu said in a tweet Saturday that âan investigation has been launched immediately after we detected the photos and the ambassador was recalled.â
